Hey Guys! Big Daddy Jacob here! I thought for the last post about the Olympics, I would tell you a little more about the history, and also I would tell you about the last part of the Olympics--- The Awards!! Well here you go: The olympic games were played for 12 centuries until the Emperor Theodosius, banned all of the Pagan cults. One theory is that the games were created to honor the Pagan gods. A more popular legend is that they were created to honor Zeus. The legend goes like this: Zeus was fighting his father for control of everything. After Zeus beat his father, they made a temple and giaant statue of him to worship him. People soon after started to hold festivals to honor him. The festivals soon became the olympics. People who won the awards in the Olympics got their rewards right after the event. After the whole games were done, all of the people who won would get their name announced by the herald. The Hellanodikis who was their judge, would place a palm branch in the winners hands, while a red ribbon would be tied around their head. On the last day of the Olympics, they had a big award ceremony. The Hellanodikis would put a wreath on the winners head and then they would celebrate. Signing off, Big Daddy Jacob
